Some GE dishwashers have owner-removable fine and ultra-fine filters; others use self-cleaning filtration. Confirm the design in the manual before removing anything.
Identify the correct filter design
Stop the cycle and let the water and parts cool before handling removable filters. Do not assume a filter is removable because another GE model has one. The exact owner manual defines what can be removed and cleaned.
Clean the ultra-fine filter gently
For the design in GE’s guide, remove the bottom rack, turn the ultra-fine filter counterclockwise, and lift it out. Rinse with warm soapy water and use a sponge for stubborn particles. Avoid scouring pads and brushes on this filter.
Secure the assembly
Reinstall the ultra-fine filter and turn it clockwise to lock, using the alignment mark where fitted. The fine mesh plate has separate retaining posts on the illustrated design; use the manual’s procedure if cleaning it.
Watch for a change in performance
Gritty dishes or declining wash performance are reasons to inspect the filters. A continuing fault after correct cleaning needs further diagnosis.
